Joseph A. Levenda of Valparaiso, IN, January 2, 1921 – November 13, 2012

Joseph A. Levenda, age 89 of Valparaiso passed away November 13, 2012.  He was a WWII Us Army veteran, a retired employee of Gainer Bank and a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Chesterton.  Joe spent many years in service to the Gary Diocese.  He was preceded in death by parents Peter and Susan Levenda and siblings Ella Martin, Victor, John Edward and Leonard Levenda.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Rita (nee Wardell) Levenda of Valparaiso; daughter Marsha (John) Durbin of Lake Station; 4 grandchildren Joshua (Heather) Lineberry of Anderson, IN, Nathaniel Lineberry and Christopher (Billie Jean) of Remington, IN, and Johannah Lineberry of Valparaiso; great-grandchildren Janna, Holly, Corrie “Little Joe”, Emily, Abigail, and Allyson and numerous nieces and nephews.  Friends may visit with Joe’s family on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart, IN.  Funeral Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. directly at St. Patrick Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, IN.  Services will terminate at the church with cremation following. In lieu of flowers, donations to Albertine Home, 1501 Hoffman St., Hammond, IN 46342 will be appreciated.

Neita Arlene Quanstrom of Crown Point, IN, April 14, 1917 – November 14, 2012

Neita Arlene Quanstrom was born in Johnston City, Illinois in 1917.  She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Walter Roy, children Walter (Fay) Quanstrom, Ronald (Julie) Quanstrom and Joyce (Lee) Abbott, twenty grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. 

 

Neita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was involved in many ministries in her lifetime among them Sunday school teacher, choir member, nursing home and hospital volunteer and various women’s ministries.  Her participation for fourteen years in the Easter cantata “the Victor” was a highlight. 

 

Neita was truly the Christian example of a Proverbs 31 woman:  “her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her.”

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN.  Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Visitation will be at Burns Funeral Home Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Ruth H. Altomere of Merrillville, Indiana, February 6, 1955 – November 7, 2012

Ruth H. Altomere (nee Ackermann), age 57, of Merrillville, IN, passed away on Weds, Nov. 7, 2012.  Ruth was a graduate of Merrillville High School, Class of 1974.  She was a former employee of Southlake Methodist Hospital and R-Place Restaurant in Merrillville, IN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Juergen & Hilde Ackermann.  She is survived by children, John Puza, Jr., Stephanie (Jason) Ezell and David Altomere; brothers, Claus (Karen) Ackermann, Michael (Lisa) Ackermann, and Mark Ackermann; sister, Sonya Peters; grandchild, Joshua; several nieces & nephews and many loving friends and co-workers.
