Doretta I. (nee Mehalic) Schmelter, age 84 of Hobart, passed away November 21, 2012.
She was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1946 and was a former employee of Chart Pool USA in Portage. Doretta was a devoted Christian, mother and artist. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Paul R. Schmelter on December 29, 1988, her son Dean Schmelter and sister Beverly Crabtree. She is survived by children Tom (Chris) Schmelter of Charlotte, NC, William (Dana) Schmelter of Winfield, Marcia (Eric) Stubbeman of Indianapolis, and Paul (Shelly) Schmelter of Hobart; grandchildren Brendan Schmelter, Brianne (Josh) Davis, Shanna (Caleb) Morrett, Alanna Schmelter, Kyle Stubbeman, Zach Schmelter, Amanda Schmelter, and Kate Schmelter; brother Leon Mehalic; sister Connie (Paul) Towner of Augusta, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may visit with Doretta’s family on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart. Funeral Service Saturday at 10 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home (Hobart). Rev. John Starr officiating. Internment at Calumet Park Cemetery.
