Robert H. Soyster of Hobart, IN, April 29, 1925 – October 20, 2012

Robert H. Soyster, age 87 of Hobart, passed away October 20, 2012.  Bob was born in Chicago in 1925 and moved to Hobart, IN in 1956 where he resided for 56 years.  Bob met his best friend and love of his life at the tender age of 4.  LaVerne Peacher lived one house away and was born in 1925, one day after him. They had been married 56 years at her passing in 2006.  Bob graduated from Olson School of Jewelry in 1948 and Chicago School of Watchmaking in 1950.  He was passionate about collecting, fixing and building clocks.  He retired from US Steel South Works in 1984 with 35 years of service.  During that time he achieved many awards for innovative ideas for the company.  Bob was proud of his service in the Navy during WWII and was stationed in Papua New Guinea.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaVerne; parents Marian (nee Craft) and Homer L. Soyster, stepmother Stella Soyster; brothers Richard and Frank Soyster; and son-in-law Michael Hall.  Bob is survived by son Andrew (Marcia) Soyster of Portage; daughter Elaine Hall of South Haven; 3 grandchildren Melissa (Brad Pikula) Busch, Jennifer Soyster and Amy (Jeff) Coe; and 4 great-grandchildren Morgan Peters, Miles Busch, Ella Busch and Grayson Coe.  Funeral Services were private.  Burns Funeral Home, Hobart in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to the VNA Hospice, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383.  www.burnsfuneral.com
