Hortense Izetta Scheurer of Hobart, IN, formely Gary, IN, November 15, 1915 – September 6, 2012

Hortense Izetta Scheurer, age 96 of Hobart passed away September 6, 2012.  She was born November 15, 1915 in Michigan City to Warren and Martha Cannon.  She grew up in Gary with her brother Warren and graduated from Horace Mann High School, Class of 1934.  In 1936 she married William Scheurer and they raised 3 children in Gary before moving to Hobart in 1972.  Hortense was retired from Lever Brothers.  She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Gary and a current member of Hobart Presbyterian Church, a 59 year member of Vivian Society B.P.O.E. and  Olive Chapter #396 Order of the Eastern Star.  Hortense enjoyed painting in oils and water colors, studying with Robert Hoffman for many years and was a longtime member of the Hobart Arts League.  She was also a dedicated bridge and poker player.  She greatly enjoyed time spent at her son’s in Lake Maxinkuckee.  Hortense is survived by her daughter Carol (Jim) Davidson, son Scott Scheurer, daughter Holly (Charles) Self, sister-in-law Francis Cannon, niece Kathy Cannon, nephew John Cannon and special family friends Bernie and Darlene Talian.  Visitation is Tuesday, September 11, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart.  Funeral Service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
