Jeffrey P. Johnson of Hobart, IN, September 16, 1957 – April 30, 2013

     Jeffrey P. Johnson, 55, of Hobart, Indiana passed unexpectedly on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hobart.
     Jeff was born in Decatur, Illinois on September 16th, 1957 to James and Bernadine Johnson, the 4th of 5 sons, and graduated from Stephen Decatur High School.  Following graduation Jeff worked a number of jobs from food service to photography to Muzak system installation before finally finding his true calling in industrial gas sales and safety.  There he serviced large clients such as steel mills and fabrication facilities and conducted training seminars on the handling of various gases used in welding and manufacturing processes.
     Jeff was highly engaged in life and life-long learning.  In addition to his professional career he was an avid fisherman, a photo historian and a highly accomplished woodworker.  In recent years he was deeply involved with the Calumet Astronomical Society, serving as the Director of Education, where he conducted numerous seminars and observing parties for students of all ages.
     Left to honor his life and accomplishments are his wife Emily, son Brandon, daughter Kirsten, loyal canine companion Barkley, brothers Mike, Chris, Greg and Tom, and his mother Bernadine.  Following cremation at Burns Funeral Home Crematory, a memorial service will be held Thursday April 4, 2013 at 6:00 pm at Living Stones Church, 909 Pratt St., Crown Point, IN with Dr. Ron Johnson, Jr. officiating, with gathering time from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calumet Astronomical Society.
