Donald August Moretton, age 77, of Hobart, passed away January 18, 2013. Born in East Chicago, Indiana, to the late Guido and Ann Moretton on March 28, 1935, he is survived by his wife Patricia (Karvelis) Moretton and children: Cathy Ann (Brad) Oster, Christy (William) Keck, Dean (Laura) Moretton; grandsons, Robert, Ryan, Alan and Russell; brother, Kenneth (Bonnie) Moretton.
Don was a graduate of Griffith High School. He received Bachelor and Master Degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. Don served in the Hammond Public Schools for 39 years. During that time, he taught Business Education, was Assistant Principal at Hammond High School, and Principal at Gavit High School. He was a member of numerous professional and fraternal organizations.
As a U. S. Army reservist with the 395th Evacuation Hospital, Gary, Indiana, he was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Crisis 1961-1962.
Friends may visit with the family at the Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th Street, Hobart, on Monday, January 21, 2013, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Military honors service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Funeral services will begin at the Burns Funeral Home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. to St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 E. 2nd St., Hobart, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Services will end at the church. Donations may be made to the Hobart Food Pantry.
