Steven W. Seckendorf of Calumet Township, Indiana, November 27, 1952 – August 17, 2012

Steven W. Seckendorf, age 59, of Calumet Township, IN, passed away suddenly August 17, 2012.

 

He is survived by his wife Joann Seckendorf, and daughter Kimberly Sut. He was the devoted son of Margaret (nee Cummings) Seckendorf and the late Fred; beloved brother of Carol (Jack) Fisher, Fred G. (Linda) Seckendorf  and Joyce (John)  Falstrom. He was the cherished uncle of 6 and proud great-uncle of 6.

 

Steve was a loving, funny, quick-witted and hard working husband, father, brother and a great friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed life, animals, farming, motorcycles, history, family, friends, and the freedom of the ride. He was an A.B.A.T.E. member, as well as a member of many other non-profit organizations across the world. He was a 20- year plus employee of A.T.& T.

 

Steven’s smile and friendly jokes will be missed. God bless him and we know he will always be with us.

 

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  Rev. Mark Wilkins officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations will be made to charities Steve supported.

John Harvey Padgitt of Thayer, IN, November 18, 1936 – August 15, 2012

John Harvey Padgitt “Jack”, age 75 of Thayer, IN, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force-Korean War. Jack was a loving husband, a great father, and a true friend to many. Jack was a licensed minister for the Pentecostal Church of God and a member of the 1st Pentecostal Church of God in Hammond.  He was a retired machine operator from LaSalle Steel.  He loved the Lord with all of his heart, enjoyed spending time with friends at Frankie’s Restaurant, being outside in his garden and rooting for the Cubs.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Roberta Copeland and his brother, Julius “Butch” Lessner, Jr..

Jack is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Sharon; 4 sons, Danny Padgitt, Johnny Padgitt, Danny Edward (Carmen) Padgitt of Portage, and Edmund Goldbaugh of Thayer; 3 daughters, Christina (Fred) Huntzinger of Ohio, Jackie (John) Padgitt of Griffith and Deborah (Greg) Aguilera of Crown Point; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Laverne Kraus of Calumet City and Diana Dell of Indianapolis; and 1 brother, .

A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN.  Rev. Leroy Hill officiating.  Interment at Historic Maplewood Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.  Friends may visit with Jack’s family on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home.

Manuel Riba of Portage, IN, October 22, 1911 – July 15, 2012

Manuel Riba, age 100 of Portage and formerly of Hobart, passed away July 15, 2012.  He was a US Army veteran and retired from US Steel with 47 years of service.  He was a member of Steelworkers Local 1014, American Legion Post 207, the Hobart Art League, the Lacare Art League and the Spanish Society.  Manuel was preceded in death by his wife Isabel in 1992, grandsons Scott and Jason Riba,  brother Ralph and sisters Adeline Martinez, , Monse Ruiz and Mercedes Mitchell.  He is survived by son Richard (Judy) Riba of Hobart; daughter Linda Adler of Portage; grandchildren Martin Stevens and Stacey (Mike) Scheuer and great-grandchild Nathan Scheuer, all of Portage.  A Memorial Service will be Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 6 p.m.  at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart.  Friends may visit with Manuel’s family prior to the service from 3 to 6 p.m.  In lieu of flowers contributions in Manuel’s memory may be made to VNA Hospice, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
