George F. Roback of Hobart, IN, December 22, 1926 – March 26, 2013

George F. Roback, age 86 of Hobart passed away March 26, 2013. George was a WWII US Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post 100 in Lake Station, and a member of Pipefitters Union Local #597.  He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Catherine Roback in 2009.  George is survived by his daughter Cathy Ann Westkowski of Crown Point; Son George (Judy) Roback of Park Forest, IL; and grandchildren Jeremy Dykhuizen, Bill Davis, Stephanie Westkowski and Kaitlin Roback.  Friends may visit with George’s family on Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart.  American Legion Post 100 Service at 6 p.m..  Funeral Service is Friday at 10 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home (Hobart).  Burial at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

Thomas Andrew Kopko of Ogden Dunes, IN formerly Gary, April 29, 1928 – March 26, 2013

Thomas Andrew Kopko, age 84 of Ogden Dunes (Portage) and formerly of Gary, passed

away March 26, 2013.  Tom graduated from Lew Wallace High School, Class of 1947  and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in 1952.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954.  He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas Council and a former Secretary-Treasurer and Director of First Federal Savings and Loan Association in Gary. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Anna Kopko, infant son Peter Kopko, brother Stephen Kopko, Jr., and sister Paula J. Novak. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Geraldine “Gerrie” (nee Welter); 2 sons Thomas R. (Barbara) Kopko of Chesterton and Robert A. (Mary) Kopko of Perrysburg, OH; 2 grandsons Jonathan A. “Jack” and Benjamin T.; brother Andrew J. “Jack” (Adele) Kopko of Ogden Dunes and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with Tom’ family on Monday, April 1, 2013  from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart.  Funeral Services will be Tuesday beginning at 11:45 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home (Hobart) and proceeding to St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m.  Rev. David W. Kime officiating.  Services will end at the church.  In lieu of flowers contributions in Mr. Kopko’s memory may be made to St. Francis Xavier Church or to Harbor Light Hospice.
