Eva “Marie” Gallagher, age 30 of Canton, OH, formerly of Hobart, passed away April 3, 2013. She was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 2001. She graduated with a Bachelors degree from Indiana University Northwest and worked for Dr. Dicostanzo as a Dental Hygienist and was currently working in Ohio. Marie dedicated most of her life to physical fitness.

She was preceded in death by her father Patrick Gallagher, brother Patrick, Jr., paternal grandparents Mary and John Gallagher, uncle Joe Castro and her best four legged friend, Capone. Marie is survived by her parents Gladys and Ken Williams of Hobart; fiancé Dr. Nick Shundry of OH; brothers Kenny Williams, Michael Gallagher and sister Amber Williams, all of Hobart. She is also survived by grandparents Angel and Eva Castro of FL, Ken and Nancy Williams of Hobart and Wilma and Bill Tryka of Demotte; and sisters, not by blood but by heart and soul Lyndsey Kennedy, Jennifer Benson, and Melissa Smedley; 2 special aunts Lucy Castro of FL and Diane (Rick) Bishop of AL, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Marie was a great“titi” (aunt) to special nephew Aiden Gallagher.

Friends may visit with Marie’s family on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7^th St., Hobart. Funeral Service will begin Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and proceed to St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 E. 2^nd St., Hobart for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.,Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery.

Phyllis H. Henderson, age 92, of Hobart passed away April 4, 2013. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Indiana University. She was a member of 1^st United Methodist Church of Hobart, P.E.O. Chapter Y, and Tri Kappa-Gary Associate.

Phyllis also delivered Meals on Wheels for over 15 years and was a Volunteer at Methodist Hospital for over 20 years. She was a past board member of the Gary YMCA.

She was preceded in death by husband Jack Henderson, son Richard J. and daughter Barbara Jean. Phyllis is survived by daughter JoAnne (Timothy) Bowen of Ellettsville; grandson Joshua (Becki) Bowen of Wyoming, MI and 2 grandchildren Avery and Cameron.

Ottis C. Flatt, age 79, of Lakes of the Four Seasons Crown Point, passed away on April 4, 2013. He was retired from American Maize Corn Products and was a member of the Crown Point Church of Christ.

Ottis is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara; his children, Gary Flatt, Michael (Michelle) Flatt, Melody (Don) Miller, Tim (Janna) Flatt; 8 grandchildren, one great grandchild, Lily; many other extended family and friends. Mary M. Ballog, age 97, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Mary and her husband enjoyed fishing, and she was an avid artist. Mary was

preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Edward Ballog in 2001. She is survived by 2 daughters, Sandy (George) Samson of Merrillville, IN and Marilyn Pappas of

     Jeffrey P. Johnson, 55, of Hobart, Indiana passed unexpectedly on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hobart.
     Jeff was born in Decatur, Illinois on September 16th, 1957 to James and Bernadine Johnson, the 4th of 5 sons, and graduated from Stephen Decatur High School. Following graduation Jeff worked a number of jobs from food service to photography to Muzak system installation before finally finding his true calling in industrial gas sales and safety. There he serviced large clients such as steel mills and fabrication facilities and conducted training seminars on the handling of various gases used in welding and manufacturing processes.
     Jeff was highly engaged in life and life-long learning. In addition to his professional career he was an avid fisherman, a photo historian and a highly accomplished woodworker. In recent years he was deeply involved with the Calumet Astronomical Society, serving as the Director of Education, where he conducted numerous seminars and observing parties for students of all ages.
     Left to honor his life and accomplishments are his wife Emily, son Brandon, daughter Kirsten, loyal canine companion Barkley, brothers Mike, Chris, Greg and Tom, and his mother Bernadine. Following cremation at Burns Funeral Home Crematory, a memorial service will be held Thursday April 4, 2013 at 6:00 pm at Living Stones Church, 909 Pratt St., Crown Point, IN with Dr. Ron Johnson, Jr. officiating, with gathering time from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calumet Astronomical Society.

Dorothy M. “Bonnie” Kleckner, age 82, a Hobart resident since 1951, passed away March 30, 2013, while residing at Miller’s Living in Portage Dorothy, IN.

Bonnie was a retired certified ceramics teacher. She was a member of the Center Ring Clown Alley #184, the Chicago Clown Guild, the Midwest Clowns, the World Clown Association and the Clown Hall of Fame. She was a graduate of Tolleston High School, Class of 1948.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marge Ryan and Kay Arnold. Bonnie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lyle “Tootie” Kleckner; 1 daughter, Cindy (Herb) Kuehn of Westville, IN; 3 sons: Larry (Mavis) Kleckner of Valparaiso, IN, Ron (Joyce) Kleckner of Sebastian, FL, and Tom (Nancy) Kleckner of LaPorte, IN; 5 grandchildren, Zak Kleckner of Vero Beach, FL, Jake (Cori) Kleckner of Melbourne, FL, Aimee (Sean) Funkhouser of Westville, IN, Amber (Dave) Linsemeyer of Michigan City, IN, and Adam (Melissa) Kuehn of North Judson, IN; great-grandchildren, Gavin & Gracie Funkhouser, Lily & Lacie Linsemeyer, & Faith, Zoe, Ian, and Ezra Kleckner.

Jane L. Dan, age 70, of Crown Point, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 1, 2013.

Jane was a retired Registered Nurse from Methodist Hospital and graduate of Whiting High School and Northwestern Memorial Nursing School. She was a member of Indiana Harbor Yacht Club, and an avid bridge player and golfer. Jane is preceded in death by her parents: Clyde and Ethel Utberg.

She is survived by her husband Ted; daughters, Pamela (Chuck) Fear of Stillwater, MN; Robin (Scott) Leslie of Cedar Lake, IN;

4 grandchildren, Kaitlin Fear, Tyler Leslie, Brandon Leslie and Olivia Fear and many close friends. Friends may visit with Jane’s family on April 4, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church 250 S. Indiana St. Crown Point IN from 11:00 am to 12 noon. Funeral services will then begin at noon.
