Michelle M. Boggs of Demotte, Indiana, June 28, 1967 – September 5, 2012

Michelle M. Boggs (nee Pinkerton) age 45 of Demotte, formerly of Hammond, passed away on September 5, 2012.  She graduated from Lowell High School.  Michelle was a former employee of the Hobart Humane Society and was presently employed at the Animal Medical Center in Hebron.  She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Pinkerton in 2000.  She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Ken; son, Tommy Parker of Hobart; mother, Dee Pinkerton of Hebron; brother, Bryon (Darla) Pinkerton of Winfield; uncle, Brent Hollibaugh of Valparaiso.

Polly K Koesters of Hobart, IN, November 15, 1952 – September 4, 2012

Polly Wilson Koesters, age 59 of Hobart, passed away September 4, 2012.  She was a graduate of Hobart High School, class of 1971.  Polly was the Broker/Owner of Ginter Realty, Inc. with 37 years of experience.  She was a second-generation realtor, past President of GNIAR and the Duneland Assn. of Realtors, ABR, CRS, GRI.  Polly was 1993 Duneland Realtor of the Year, where she served as President in 1991, and 2001 GNIAR Realtor of the Year where she served as President in 2000.   She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Joyce Ginter and sister Peggy Ann Wilson. 

Polly is survived by her loving husband, Denny Koesters; daughter – Laura Thureanos Walstra, son-in-law – Dan Walstra; grandbabies – Sydnee and Tyson Walstra; brothers – Clifton and Mark Adelman; sister – Carrie Adelman Ledyard; nieces and nephews – Clifton and Ashlee Adelman, Anna (Shawn) Rassam, Luke and Daniel Ledyard; great nephew – Strauss Rassam; special aunts and uncles– Jim (Patty) Rouse and Debi (Hugh) Mendenhall; lots of loving cousins.

Polly always loved and respected people, never left anyone out and had a passion for serving her community.  She loved her hometown of Hobart. She would say, “Don’t be sad, love each other, live happy”.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Luther Dr., Hobart, Rev. Gary Nagy officiating.  Cremation will precede the service.  An open house “Celebration of Polly’s Life” will be held on Saturday following the funeral service from noon until 3 p.m. at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U. S. Hwy 30, Merrillville, IN.  In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to the Hobart Food Pantry or Hobart Kiwanis.

Melissa Suzanne Mahoney of Portage, IN, January 25, 1977 – September 2, 2012

Melissa Suzanne Mahoney, D.O., age 35, of Portage, passed away suddenly on September 2, 2012.

She was a graduate of Portage High School,class of 1995 and Indiana University NW majoring in biology, and received her D.O. degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She was board eligible to the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has been in private practice for 3 years with Methodist Hospital. She was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Chesterton. She was an avid Cubs fan and a passionate animal lover. She loved to read, enjoyed being active and was a huge fan of music, especially the “Wallflowers”.

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael D. Mahoney. She is survived by her mother, Susan Taylor (Mahoney), and sister, Samantha Mahoney, both of Portage and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Peter E. Gutierrez, M.D. of Crown Point, IN, March 30, 1928 – August 31, 2012

 

Peter E.Gutierrez, M.D. age 84, of Crown Point, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012. He was born in Gary on March 30, 1928. He dedicated his life to health care and the Northwest Indiana Community. Peter attended Horace Mann High School in Gary. He attended the Citadel, Military College of South Carolina, Loyola U., Chicago, B. S. Biological Science; Loyola University, Chicago Bacteriology, Illinois Institute of Technology, Bacteriology, Indiana University School of Medicine, M.D. 1958, Internship, Methodist Hospital of Gary, 1958-1959. He served in the U. S. Army 1952 to 1954. He practiced in Crown Point, Indiana, 1959 to date and founded Crown Point Clinic, Inc., a multi-specialty group until 1968. Medical Director of James O. Parramore Hospital; Peter served as Medical Director Lake County Jail 1969 to 1982; Director of Professional Services, Lutheran  Home of Northwest Indiana 1980 to 1983; Past Chairman Peer Review Committee; Lake County Medical Society; Chairman Blue Shield State Wide Fee Review Committee 193 to 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter L. and Lucille Gutierrez and sister, Vinnie. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jacqueline Gutierrez; 4 children: Marie Vogel of Phoenix, Peter M. (Kim) Gutierrez of Phoenix, Jean (Mike) Powers of Kildeer, IL and Lucy (Anthony) Trotman of Camden, NC; stepchildren: Robyn (Tim) (nee Henderson) McGrath of Alexandria, VA, Amy (Joe) (nee Henderson) LeDonne of Austin, TX, Ross (Kristin) Henderson of Indianapolis, Lori and John Laszlo of Munster, Brian Fuchs of Crown Point and Sam Fuchs of Atlanta, GA. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

Friends may visit with the family at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home with Rev. John Starr officiating. Services will terminate at the funeral home with cremation to follow at the Burns Funeral Home Crematory.

Wanda Mae Sullivan of Hobart, Indiana, April 6, 1930 – August 28, 2012

 

Wanda M. Sullivan, age 82 of Hobart and formerly of Calumet City, IL passed away August 28, 2012.  In her earlier years, Wanda’s pastimes included bowling with friends, canning and preparing memorable holiday meals.  She enjoyed reading and watching her beloved Cubs and Packers.  Most of all, Wanda was devoted to her family.  She will be greatly missed.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Edward “Durb” Sullivan.  Wanda is survived by children Gwen (Ray) Herringer, Donna (Al Martin) Sullivan, and Rick (Pat) Sullivan; 8 loving grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  Friends may visit with the family on Friday, August 31, 2012, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN.  Funeral Service will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations to VNA Hospice, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383 will be appreciated. www.burnsfuneral.com

Robert Andrew Szentesy of Portage, Indiana, September 27, 1924 – August 27, 2012

Robert Andrew Szentesy, age 87, of Portage, IN, formerly of Gary, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012. Robert was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School, Class of 1943 and attended Indiana University.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy – WWII.  Robert was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Hobart VFW Post 5365 and Carpenter’s Local #1005.  He was a retired supervisor with Stern Construction. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew & Anna Szentesy, brother, Michael Szentesy and sister, Dorothy Burkus. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary J. (nee McGlinn) Szentesy; 5 children, David (Carole) Szentesy of Noblesville, IN, Kathy (John) Lashenik of Hobart, IN, Barbara (Tim) Moore of Hopkinsville, KY, Karen (Bob) Watts of Hobart, IN, and Andy (Patrice) Szentesy of The Woodlands, TX; 12 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.
