Wanda Rozcicha, age 102, from Crown Point, IN passed away April 1, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, son Edward, son-in-law Laverne Buckmaster; sisters, Natalie Welborn and Helen Lager.

Wanda is survived by her daughter, Joanne Buckmaster, grandchildren Lynn(Jim) Irwin; Mark(Cheri) Buckmaster,

Lance(Debbie) Buckmaster, Larry (Cindi) Rozcicha, Brian(Laura) Rozcicha, and Darlene, Kathy, Susan, Robin Rozcicha, niece-Nancy Nack, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangement will be private and handled by Burns Funeral Home in Crown Point, IN.

Dorothy C. Frenzel, age 82, of Lake Station,IN. passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles, camping, dancing, singing and sitting in her rocking chair. She loved her dog, Rex.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret, father, Alexander; sisters, Helen and Lorraine and her granddaughter, Brandy.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Charles Frenzel, sons, Dennis (Diane) Simala, Lenny Simala, daughters, Diane Gilmore, Barb Fayette, Nancy (Sam) Karras, Jackie (Mike) DeChantal; step-children, Michael, Marsha, Melinda, Michelle, Patricia, Charlie, and Christopher; sister, Marie Sapyta; brothers, Robert (Lucille) Burns and James (Jan) Burns, and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit with Dorothy’s family on Friday, April 5, 2013. from 2 to 8 pm at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN.

Funeral Services Saturday, April 6, 2013, directly to St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam St. Lake Station , for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am with Rev. David W. Kime officiating, visitation at the church from 9:30 to 10:00 am. Interment at St. John, St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 50 E 91^st St. Ste 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830

Jane L. Dan, age 70, of Crown Point, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 1, 2013.

Jane was a retired Registered Nurse from Methodist Hospital and graduate of Whiting High School and Northwestern Memorial Nursing School. She was a member of Indiana Harbor Yacht Club, and avid bridge player and golfer. Jane is preceded in death by her parents: Clyde and Ethel Utberg.

She is survived by her husband Ted; daughters, Pamela (Chuck) Fear of Stillwater, MN; Robin (Scott) Leslie of Cedar Lake, IN;

4 grandchildren, Kaitlin Fear, Tyler Leslie, Brandon Leslie and Olivia Fear and many close friends. Friends may visit with Jane’s family on April 4, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church 250 S. Indiana St. Crown Point IN from 11:00 am to 12 noon. Funeral services will then begin at noon. Matthew M. Soper, age 16, of Crown Point (Winfield), passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Matt was a junior at Crown Point High School. He loved sports and riding his dirt bike.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Lou Rodriguez and his great-grandmother, Helen E. Hamilton.

Matt is survived by his father, Kevin M Soper of Chicago, mother, Maria Soper-Peak & step-dad, Michael Peak of Crown Point; beloved sisters, Ashley Soper and Savannah Peak & brother, Conner Peak all of Crown Point; maternal grandfather, Jose Rodriguez of Chicago, paternal grandparents, Jack & Pat Soper of Chicago, loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins and girlfriend, Yesi.

Age 98 years and 10 months, entered into eternal life on Saturday March 30,
2013. George was born in New York City as the son of immigrant
parents Anthony Christakis of Chios, Greece and Stella Valcek Christakis of
Ukrainia. George lived most of his life in Gary & Hobart. George was a likeable, religious, generous man who had a strong, pure love for his family. He helped make the world a better place by positively effecting every person he came into contact with. He retired from US Steel in 1979 after 30 years of service. George was a member of SS Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a member of its Senior Citizens Group. He was a sergeant and WWII Hero during the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, receiving the Bronze Star Medal for bravery. George was chosen along with his friend Al Terzes to fly aboard the Honor Flight Chicago Oct. 23, 2012 that traveled to Washington, DC. George was a former great Gary athlete and a second baseman in the Boston Red Sox organization in the early 1940s, working his way through the system up to the highest level of the minor leagues and to spring training, before being drafted into the Army. George was a manager for many successful Mannbridge Little League & Horace Mann Babe Ruth teams in Gary. George was nicknamed “Dynamite” during his successful basketball career for Gary Froebel in the 1930s. George was an active member for over 30 years of the Hobart YMCA and represented the Hobart Y when he threw out the first ball at a Railcats Game. George was also named Hobart’s
Most Vital Senior. George has also been the recipient of the Gary Old Timers
Athletic Association Annual Recognition award. He was a New York Yankee fan and also liked all Chicago pro sports teams and Purdue football & basketball. George was married to Ann J. (Inest), an RN, for nearly 64 years, she preceded him in death Oct. 3, 2010. They were very close to their two children, Dean George Christakis of Hobart and Sandra Ann (Jerry) Pero of Crown Point; 2 granddaughters, Kimberly (Randall) Collins of Zionsville, IN and Kelly (Robert) Petty of Hobart; 4 great grandchildren, Brooklyn Rae 7, Benjamin George 3, Lily Rose 2 1/2 and Landon Robert born March 6, 2013; 1 sister Alice “Jeannie” (Arthur) Kurth of Valparaiso: many loving nieces, nephews and special YMCA friends, Chris, Chuck , Ron and Willie; He was preceded in
death by his brothers, Nick & John Christakis; sisters, Mary Turpa, Helen
Kikalos, Ann Sanchez and sister-in-law, Eve Inest. A special thanks to Dr. Lauren Harting, Dr. Bryan Waldo and Dr. Zlatan Stepanovic. Kristin L. Smith-Schnurlein (nee Paper), age 43, of Merrillville, formerly of Crown Point passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013. Kristin attended Thorton Fractional North High School in Calumet City, IL.

Kristin was preceded in death by her husbands: Michael J. Smith and Steven L. Schnurlein.

She is survived by her mother, Janice (James) Bober of Lowell, father, Robert Paper of Dyer, sisters: Vickie (James) Smith of Oklahoma City, OK, Lisa (Robert) Adamczyk of Dyer and Lori (William) Morgan of Lowell and many nieces and nephews. Four children: Jacob D. Smith, Stephanie Lynn Smith, Jennifer Schnurlein and Steven Schnurlein.

Friends may visit with Kristin’s family on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 12 noon to 2:00 pm at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will precede the services.

Barbara Rose Brkovich, (nee Kalmar) age 79, of Merrillville, a lifelong area resident, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013. Barbara was a graduate of Gary Lew Wallace High School. She was employed by USX as a safety clerk for 28 years.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Mathew in 2007, her brother Gil Kalmar and her son-in-law, Robert Conder. She is survived by her son Dr. John (Victoria) Laco of Lakeville, MN; daughter Pam (nee Laco) Conder of Crown Point; 3 grandchildren: Ryan, Nicolas and Megan Rose Laco; brother, Michael (Carol) Kalmer of Portage and sisters Julie Laskody of Merrillville and Marie Dowdy of Oklahoma: sister-in-law, Dorothy Ziletsky and sister-in-law Eloise Kalmar of Gary.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point. Funeral services Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment at Calumet Park Mausoleum, Merrillville.
