Lola Korpella of Hobart, IN, October 25, 1925 – December 30, 2012

Lola Korpella, age 87 of Hobart, passed away December 30, 2012.  She was born in the Ukraine, became a POW and met her husband Ray during WWII.  She and her late husband owned the Cup and Saucer Restaurant in Merrillville and operated a catering service. She also cooked for hundreds at a tennis ranch in Michigan.  She enjoyed sewing, and made several wedding dresses.  Her passion in life was her family and her flowers.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ray and son Richard.  Lola is survived by sons Edward (Lynn) Korpella of Crown Point and Joe (Pam) Korpella of Hobart; grandchildren Holly (Lazo Ilich) Korpella of Valparaiso, Todd Korpella of Annapolis, MD,Eric Korpella of Hobart and  Heather (Ben Wollitz) Korpella of Chicago; 2 great-grandchildren Lily and Payne Korpella and nieces and nephews.  Friends may visit with Lola’s family on Thursday January 3, 2013 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart.  Funeral Service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home. Rev. Andrew Corona officiating. Entombment at Graceland Cemetery.

Kay J Jones McGregor of Crown Point, IN, September 17, 1936 – December 28, 2012

Kay (nee Casebeer) (Jones) McGregor, age 76, of Crown Point, formerly of Gary and Merrillville, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012.

 

Kay was a former member of City Methodist Church in Gary and currently a member of Church of the Four Seasons Methodist Church. Kay sang with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Choir for 3 years and sang with the church choirs for over 50 years. She served as church president of the United Methodist Group from 2000 – 2001. She graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and retired from Merrillville Community School Corporation as a registered school nurse. In retirement she volunteered with the American Cancer Society and helped with “Relay for Life” and educational programs in schools. She was a member of the Methodist Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary and was a member of the Merrillville/Duneland Business and Professional Women’s Club.

 

Kay was preceded in death by her husbands: Vernon A. Jones in 1970 and Richard McGregor in 1990, her parents, Benjamin and Julia Casebeer, and granddaughter Rachel Reed.

 

 

 

She is survived by her children: Barbara (nee Jones) and (Gerald) Mulloy of Crown Point, Vernon A. (Pam) Jones of Lafayette; stepchildren Christine (Jerry) Ferda of Wisconsin, Lynn Reed of Portage, Judy (Don) Alvey of Portage and Dan (Jenifer) McGregor of California. Nine grandchildren: Erin (John) Mulloy-Flores and Amy Mulloy, Emily ((Joey) Phillips and Gavin (fiancee Alyssa Shehorn) Jones, Andrew Reed, Katlyn and Sean Alvey and Kristen McGregor and Lauren (Tom) Hogue; great grandchildren: Landon Phillips and Marilyn Alvey; one sister, Sue (Bob) Summers of Kentucky and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Friends may visit with the family at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Four Seasons Methodist, 9100 – 109th, Crown Point with Rev. Dan Richwine officiating. Kay will lie in state at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. (time of services).Interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary.
